About the space

Wonder House sits in a restored fourteenth-century masia on the edge of Montseny Natural Park, in the municipality of Sant Feliu de Buixalleu, about an hour from Barcelona. The main building holds the kitchen, a large coworking room, the bedrooms — ensuite and shared — a cinema room, a craft and Fab Lab area and a bar in the cellar. Outside are a roofed terrace, a chill-out corner, a gym in its own outbuilding and a natural pool with loungers. Room counts differ from listing to listing; the operator sizes its residency programme for ten to fifteen people.

The setup, in principle

The coworking room is big and stays quiet through the working day; listings put it at around eight desks with monitors, open around the clock. The connection is Starlink by the listings’ account, quoted at 100 to 200 Mbps down and 10 to 20 up — third-party figures, not a measurement. The community is programmed hard: a weekly theme drawn by chance from two baskets, an evening event the volunteers and the community manager build around it, and communal dinners cooked by two residents a night, where a costume is the price of a plate. A feather will do. None of it starts before the evening, and leaving early costs nothing — most residents have a day job, and the house treats that as normal.

Neighbourhood

There is nothing within walking distance but other houses: no restaurant, no shop, no bus. The nearest groceries are a steep bike ride of around seven kilometres or a short drive, so without a car, food shopping gets planned rather than improvised. Listings mention house shopping runs two to three times a week and a pickup from Hostalric station, ten minutes away by car, where trains from Barcelona take about an hour and run every couple of hours. The trade is the setting: the park starts at the gate, and a party on the terrace bothers no neighbours.

Best for

Remote workers with a full working day who want the evenings organised for them — communal dinners, a weekly themed event — without being made to stay

Less good for

Car-free guests who want to shop when they like, people who find a full house of themed events tiring, and anyone who will neither dress up for dinner nor cook for themselves
